Hun Manet: Despite the Closure of the ECCC Trial, the Royal Government and the UN Support Continuing Work

Phnom Penh, 16 July 2024: Prime Minister Hun Manet has affirmed that despite the closure of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), the Royal Government of Cambodia and the United Nations remain committed to supporting the ongoing implementation of the ECCC's remaining tasks.

The Prime Minister made these remarks while presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Victims' Consultation Room, the Permanent Exhibition Hall, and the ECCC Memorial Park on the morning of July 16, 2024.

He elaborated, “In accordance with the Additional Agreement on Transitional Preparation and Termination of the Extraordinary Chambers, agreed upon in 2021, several legal matters are to be addressed. These include monitoring the execution of sentences for convicts in prisons, maintaining and disseminating information to the public, and establishing the 'ECCC Resource Center.' This center aims to preserve and enhance the heritage related to its archives and manage all case archives according to international standards, making them accessible to the public for a deeper understanding of Cambodia's dark history.”
